Katz is the sexiest!

Katrina Kaif is maha thrilled.

‘Kats’, as she is known in the industry, has just been declared the ‘Sexiest Woman in the World’ by a UK men’s entertainment magazine which held its first online poll in India. Around five lakh men voted for her, elevating her to the top slot.

And, what’s more, Kats won the coveted title by defeating the likes of Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson, singers Rihanna and Madonna and Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu, supermodels like Adriana Lima and Gisele Bundchen, amongst several other sexy and successful women in the world.

“It feels great. I think it’s the sweetest thing that my fans have done. They have actually taken time off to go online and vote for me,” says the actress, flashing a million dollar smile.
Kats is also the most downloaded actress, her pictures are the most viewed ones online. “Isn’t that amazing?” she asks.

Her fan following is increasing, is she going to start a blog soon? “I’m a very shy person. I reach out to my fans through my films, beyond that I am not someone who talks a lot. Starting a blog means updating your viewers with what’s happening in your life on a daily basis, which I can’t do. I need my personal space,” says the actress.

And what, according to her, makes her the Sexiest Woman in the World? “I think people just like me in the type of roles that I do. I won’t say that I want to do highly dramatic or intellectual films because perhaps that’s not what my fans would like to see me in,” says the actress. “Every actor reaches a certain stage in life when he or she thinks that they have to do different kind of cinema, but right now I am content,” says the sexy woman whose good friend Salman Khan, too, apparently features in the list of the Sexiest Men in the World.

When are the two going to star in a film together? “I’m doing Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraj with him,” says Kats.

I've finally proved my critics wrong: Katrina Kaif

Katrina who's currently basking in the success of Abbas-Mustan's Race in Dubai has plenty to be happy about. Her heroine-centric turn in Vipul Shah's Namaste London has elicited wah-wahs not just from critics but also from the masses.

"Yeah the film is a hit. And I think I've finally proved my critics wrong. Not that Namaste London is my first success. My first film Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and then Sarkar were also successful. But it's good to be recognized in a film that revolves around you."

Next move forward…Katrina has signed on the dotted line for Subhash Ghai's new directorial venture Yuvraj where she's paired with Salman.

"It's a big move. Because banner-wise Subhashji is just the top-of-the-shelf and I love the way he presents heroines. Look at Mahima in Pardes and Meenakshi Sheshadri in Hero.

Even in a masculine films like Karma and Ram Lakhan Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit were no walk-overs. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it."

People would presume Katrina pipped the role through Salman's recommendation "It's so stupid to think like that specially now when I have Namaste London to my credit.

Actually I met Subhash-ji long before. He had offered me a film. I think it was Kisna. Now for Yuvraj he asked Vipul Shah to show him my work in Namaste London. That's how I think he decided on me."

Trying to curb her annoyance at Salman-centric interpretations to her career progress Katrina says, "Do people think Subhash-ji is the kind of filmmaker who can be influenced by people into signing anyone? He has always gone by what is right for his film."

Katrina plays a musician in Yuvraj. "It's the role of a modern musician and I've had to learn to play a musical instrument for it. I didn't want to get into this role just anyhow. I wanted to be fully prepared.."

When Vidya's mother caught Shahid

Shahid Kapoor’s kismat didn’t konnect well with him when he decided a prank on her co-star Vidya Balan while shooting in Canada for his upcoming flick Kismat Konnection.

After knowing Vida’s weakness of getting petrified of spooky stories and ghosts, the chocolaty boy bought a horrifyingly mask to scare the day lights out of her.

As planned, Shahid, along with the other unit members waited for the night to carry on their Vidya darao mission.

Accompanied by his team, Shahid wore the mask and knocked at Vidya’s door, expecting none other than Vidya to open the door. Even the unit members were pretty excited to catch a glimpse of Vidya's scared stiff reaction and eagerly waited outside Vidya's room to watch the fun.

A source reveals, "The entire unit was waiting with bated breath outside Vidya's door as they were all in on Shahid's prank. But guess what happened?"

Well, it was time for the joke to be on Shahid because it was not Vidya but her mother who opened the door. Shahid was shocked out of his wits when he saw Vidya's mother, while Vidya's mother stood too stunned to react.

A unit hand reveals, "Vidya's mom didn't know it was Shahid who was behind the mask. She thought he was an intruder so she held on to him tightly and called for security.

Of course when the security guys came, everyone cracked up because the entire unit was in on the plan as Shahid had taken everyone into confidence".

The entire unit burst into laughter and Shahid joined in on the joke by laughing nonstop. Well, Shahid, being in Bollywood for so long, you must have guessed, where there’s an actress there has to be her mom, too.

Khan versus Khan

It is not new for the Khans of Bollywood. Salman and Shah Rukh Khan have done it. Aamir and SRK have also done it. It can be recalled that SRK's Don and Salman's Jaaneman released on the same date during Diwali. Well this time too SRK's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is going to clash with Aamir Khan's Ghajini .

Earlier Ghajini was clashing with Goldie Behal's fiction drama Drona which is also one of the biggest films of the year. Apparently Aamir's film has been delayed due to Aamir's accident. It was slated to release on October 2nd but now has been shifted to December 12th. Due to this delay it's now clashing with one of the biggest films of the year. Aditya Chopra's SRK starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is also releasing on the same day.

However, this is not the first time that Aamir and SRK's movies are releasing on the same date. Earlier Aamir's Akele Hum Akele Tum released on the same day when SRK's Ram Jaane released. Well that time both were unlucky as both the movies failed at the box office.

Apparently Aamir had always gone through such situations as earlier his Dil clashed with Ghayal , Lagaan with Sunny Deol's Gaddar and his recently released Taare Zameen Par clashed with Welcome . He has been lucky all the time. According to trade analyst Atul Mohan this time the clash will definitely cut into each other's business but both the Khan's have their own set of fan following. SRK and Aditya Chopra combination has a edge over Aamir khan's Ghajni in the overseas market.

Though Aamir has turned out to be a winner all the time, SRK is not far behind. We wish both the Khans luck

Sarkar Raj Review

/photo.cms?msid=3103721 Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai
Rating: /photo.cms?msid=3103719

With Sarkar , Ram Gopal Varma had precisely established the central characters, set the ambience, defined the aura and demarcated the genre. So in the follow-up he simply had to take the legend ahead while narrating a new episode. And to a decent degree he succeeds in carrying the legacy forward.

In the second installment, Sarkar aka Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan) takes a backseat as son Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan) takes hold of the family empire. An NRI industrialist Anita Ranjan (Aishwarya Rai) approaches the Nagre family with a power plant project to be set in the local lands of Maharashtra under Sarkar’s domain. After initial reluctance, Sarkar gives a go ahead to the venture which soon takes shape of a political conspiracy.

Ramu’s storytelling pattern is such that he initially builds up the drama and subsequently breaks down the politics behind the play. He effectively employs all the original techniques from the predecessor by making use of the same theme for the background score (Amar Mohile), caustic editing pattern (Amit Parmar, Nipun Gupta), sepia tone effect and erratic camera angles (Amit Roy).

But while adhering to the original, he occasionally, also sets up repetitiveness in the screenplay with similar setup and shot execution. For instance he sketches a group of negative forces absolutely analogous like the villain quartet from Sarkar with identical intentions to crumple the Nagre kingdom. Reprehensibly their caricature characterizations do not gel with the solemn temper of the film. Sayaji Shinde hams endlessly while Govind Namdeo and Upendra Limaye are consistently theatrical, appearing more as comic sidekicks.

To an extent, even the screenplay is moulded in the vein of the forerunner film when Shankar wages a political war against his opponents. But the treatment is twisted as Ramu reverses the roleplay of the father-son duo in this film in clear contrast to the format adopted in the earlier episode. While the father takes a backseat in the initial reels giving authority to son, he grabs charge of the proceedings in the concluding portions.

Like in Sarkar, Ramu sharply balances the role runtime of both the father and the son justifying the collective presence of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. But he simultaneously swaps their zones of prominence thereby bringing a variation in their contribution. Despite drama being the highlight, the texture is subtle throughout.

From a political war, the film intermittently shifts track to a regular revenge drama till it arrives to a volatile climax that forms a highlight of the enterprise, escalating the entire graph. Sarkar Raj clearly gains major marks for its clever culmination, which was so much lacking from recent RGV products. The considerately and crisply penned dialogues by Prashant Pandey add a lot of insight to the scenes and depth to the characterizations.

From the cast, Aishwarya Rai plays a mere spectator to the scenes than a participant to the politics. She is her usual self and her act doesn’t seem to be sculpted by the RGV touch. The other two Bachchans have exhaustive scope and completely submit to Ramu’s visualization.

Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, once again, employ the intensity of their piercing eyes to give sight to Ram Gopal Varma’s distinctive vision.
